Weather-resistant, durable, and secure
Not only is a weather-resistant surface, as well as weatherproof handles and fittings, particularly important for an entrance door, but burglary protection is also crucial. Drill-resistant locks, security cylinders with security cards, and multi-point locking systems should be prioritized. There are different classes of burglary protection. The construction of the door is also important. It should be warp-resistant, well-insulated, and durable.
Good insulation pays off
The standard opening of an entrance door is around 2 m², meaning significant heat energy loss can occur with a poorly insulated door. Many manufacturers promise good insulation values based on the thickness of their doors. However, caution is needed when considering the construction of an entrance door. The temperature and humidity differences between the living space and the outdoors can be substantial. In winter, the temperature difference can exceed 30°C, with up to 50% humidity. It is especially important that the door is thermally separated and as warp-resistant as possible to minimize deformation of the door leaf and frame. This helps to avoid potential leaks and problems with the locking mechanism.
Wippro manufactures its entrance doors using a sandwich construction. Here, multi-layered laminated wood is combined with high-insulation panels. Solid wooden edges and an aluminum phenol surface, which can be painted or covered, make the door even more robust and stable. Surrounding seals (with particular attention to the hinge area) and a thermally separated threshold seal the entrance door effectively.
Definitely the Right Surface
The surfaces of an entrance door are very versatile, offering many possibilities. A crucial aspect is the orientation and installation location of the entrance door. If the door is on the sheltered side and has a large overhang, such as a wooden entrance door like the Alpin Edition or natural wood surfaces with an oiled finish, weathering and the associated maintenance are not as intensive.
However, if the entrance door is on the weather-facing side, surfaces such as those with a glass overlay or exterior finishes are highly recommended. A canopy or overhang provides additional protection for the entrance door.
